Trump Skips Juneteenth, Celebrates $400M Air Force One

On a day when the country marks the end of slavery, President Donald Trump stayed pointedly quiet about Juneteenth—again.
For the second year in a row. Trump did not publicly acknowledge Juneteenth. the federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery. The pause was especially stark as celebrations of grandeur ahead of Independence Day events marking the nation’s 250th anniversary were already in view. Yet the official White House schedule offered no Juneteenth observances at all. Instead, it listed executive time, a greeting with U.S. Air Force service members at Joint Base Andrews, and travel to Camp David.
There were also no Juneteenth proclamations. The White House had issued proclamations for other recent holidays and commemorative months, but none for Juneteenth.
What Trump did mark was the runway. During the trip to Joint Base Andrews. he toured the base and unveiled the new Air Force One aircraft—an airplane gifted to the U.S. by the Qatari government last year. Trump lavished praise on the estimated $400 million luxury jet, now modified for official travel.
While Juneteenth passed without an event on the day’s slate or a proclamation from the White House, Trump continued to make news elsewhere. He fired off dozens of Truth Social posts, touting the fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreements and defending the terms of negotiations from critics.
The refusal to acknowledge Juneteenth isn’t new. Trump has declined to recognize the holiday before. Juneteenth became the 11th federal holiday after President Joe Biden designated it as such in 2021, but Trump’s pattern of omission has followed him.
Since returning to office. the Trump administration has banned diversity. equity and inclusion initiatives. or DEI. in the federal government. and it has sought to remove Black history content and other racial heritage displays from government websites. Last year, the Trump administration removed Juneteenth and Martin Luther King Jr. Day from the National Park Service’s annual fee-free days list. drawing heavy criticism from the NAACP and other civil rights organizations.
The swap has come with replacements that do not carry the same symbolic weight. Those fee-free days were replaced with observances like Flag Day on June 14—which also falls on Trump’s birthday.
With Juneteenth unacknowledged on this year’s calendar. the contrast is hard to miss: lavish attention to a modified $400 million aircraft. while a federal holiday built around emancipation and remembrance received no public recognition from the White House on the day it was on the nation’s watch list.

So he skipped Juneteenth but went to Air Force One stuff… cool.
Wait, did he actually not say anything? Like at all? Meanwhile he’s bragging about a $400M plane, that’s just wild. Maybe they forgot it’s a holiday or something?
I mean Juneteenth is nice and all but the article makes it sound like he’s personally against it or something. It’s not like Air Force One is related to slavery end dates… right? Also isn’t Juneteenth already tied to Independence Day anyway? Idk, the schedule thing sounds kinda minor.
He didn’t acknowledge it AGAIN? Of course he’s quiet when it’s about Black history, but he can show up for a jet from Qatar and praise the runway like that fixes everything. They keep saying $400 million like that’s the point. And then he’s posting about Iran ceasefires too, like people don’t notice the priorities.
