Trump says Jesus would have won California

President Donald Trump didn’t just bring up election fraud again on Wednesday morning. He brought up Jesus Christ.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump argued that if the Son of God had served as a vote-tallying election official, he would have actually won California—because, in his telling, the election system was dishonest.

“You have a rigged vote out there. That’s the problem,” Trump claimed. “You have really rigged votes in California. You have all the mail-in ballots, everything else. Very hard to win because the elections are very dishonest.”

Then he pushed the point into the surreal: “If we had Jesus Christ come down and count the votes, I would have won California, because I do great with Hispanics,” Trump added.

Trump has made a similar claim about California before. In an August 2024 interview with “Dr. Phil” McGraw, he said the same thing—that Jesus descending to count votes would have changed the outcome.

He also continued to swirl around California numbers and logistics as part of his broader allegation. Trump claimed California “sent out 38 million votes” and said “nobody knows where they’re going.” He then took a swipe at Democrats. saying. “Of course. the Democrats do. I guess. Disproportionately, Democrats get many more votes. Some get eight votes. They get eight cards. And Republicans have to call in, ‘Where’s my card?’ It’s a rigged system.”.

None of it aligns with what Trump actually lost. He lost California by wide margins in the 2024 election to Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, the 2020 election to Joe Biden, and the 2016 election to Hillary Clinton.

The renewed comments landed after a fresh round of trouble for Trump—this time not from his election claims, but from the way he tried to present himself.

Weeks earlier. he faced backlash from many of his supporters after posting a social media meme that depicted him as a Jesus-like figure. In the since-deleted AI-generated image. Trump appeared in a white robe. his hands glowing. as he seemingly healed a sick man. Trump later told reporters at the White House that the meme showed him “as a doctor” and not as Jesus Christ.

By the time he spoke again on Wednesday morning, the thread was the same: Trump continues to insist the 2020 election he lost was “rigged,” even as those claims have been debunked repeatedly.
