US President Donald Trump said on Saturday (Sunday AEST) that a memorandum of understanding on a peace deal has been “largely negotiated” with Iran and will open the Strait of Hormuz, with details to be unveiled soon. “An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalisation between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and various other Countries,” Trump wrote on Trump Social. “Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly,” Trump wrote, adding
that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened under the deal. Trump posted the announcement after separate calls with the leaders of Muslim-majority nations and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told Iranian state-run media that negotiations over the past week had been trending toward “reducing points of contention.” “But there are still issues that need to be addressed through discussions with mediators, so we must wait and see where the situation will lead in the next three or four

So he’s saying the Strait’s gonna open?? Like that fixes everything overnight?
I’m not buying it. Deals are always “mostly negotiated” until Iran and the US start arguing about the fine print. Also Netanyahu calls… shocker.
Wait, the article says mediators and “reduce contention,” but who are the mediators, like the UN or just some random people? And opening the Strait of Hormuz… wouldn’t that already be open if they just stopped fighting? Seems like they’re rebranding a shipping situation.
This is why I hate when politicians tweet and then act like it’s a done deal. “Final aspects will be announced shortly” yeah okay. If Iran agrees to anything it’ll be temporary anyway, and then we’ll be back to sanctions or whatever. Hope we don’t end up with oil prices going crazy again.
