Trump Says He’s ‘Entitled’ To ‘Millions Of Dollars’ In Gifts — And It Got 1 Hilarious Reaction

President Donald Trump may have tried to crack some kind of thinly-veiled joke — but it was someone else who actually landed a punchline.

Trump signed an executive order in the Oval Office Monday that established the President’s Military Spouse Commission, a new advisory panel chaired by Jennifer Rauchet, the wife of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, to improve support for military spouses and families. Desiree Thompson Sayle, who served as aide to the president during his first term, will serve as executive director.

After Sayle wrapped up a few remarks about the commission and their mission at the signing ceremony, Trump decided to speak a little about his history of working with her.

“We have Desiree, who’s been with us for a long time,” Trump explained. “She basically responds to the public when the public — they send things. Sometimes they send gifts. Actually, it amounts to millions of dollars in small money.”

He, of course, continued, “And I said, ‘Well, what happens to that money?’ They send it back, or they do charitable work. It’s literally millions. They send it to me! I should be able to get it!”

And although everyone in the room politely laughed at this quip, Sayle actually stole the show by shaking her head and mouthing the word, “no.”

Trump continued, throwing his hands up in exasperation, “She won’t give it to me. I should be entitled to it.”

Trump later made clear he was just kidding around about feeling entitled to keep public gifts by also saying “no” himself — but seemed prompted to say that after seeing Sayle’s reaction.

Trump then went on to coax Sayle into saying Trump was better than former President Joe Biden, and in doing so the president was placated and moved on.

Although Trump can’t accept millions of dollars of “small money” gifts from the public, he had no qualms accepting luxurious and shady gifts from foreign governments, however.
