President Donald Trump lashed out at New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) on Tuesday over her decision to wear a head covering during a recent visit to an Islamic center, unloading on the Democratic governor in a furious Truth Social post.
Trump accused Hochul of wearing the head covering in an effort to court Arab voters, while also oddly tying the appearance to his longstanding criticism of New York City’s congestion pricing program.
“Hochul, considered the Worst Governor in the Country,” was “working hard to get the Arab Vote,” Trump wrote, claiming that congestion pricing was hurting her politically “especially [with] the people for whom she wears the hijab.”
“The whole thing is CRAZY!” he concluded.
The image the president shared was from an event Hochul attended at the Islamic Cultural Center School in the Bronx last week. Other prominent figures on the right spoke out over the matter, including former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt (R), who wrote on X, “Feminist icon, Kathy Hochul,” and Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX), who used the moment to mock Democratic warnings about sexism from Republicans.
Hochul is a frequent target of Trump’s. The president referenced her during a speech made to law enforcement officials earlier this month, claiming she’s “done such a poor job” in the state. During the same appearance, flanked by Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel, he made sure to boost Hochul’s opponent, New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman.
Not to mention, Trump brought up congestion pricing in an Aug. 11 Truth Social post, calling it part of a “dangerous political ‘experiment’” that he claimed would bring New York “Financial, and then Social, RUIN.”
“The Radical Left Jihadists charge Congestion Pricing on top of everything else. This doesn’t work in America, and must be stopped, NOW!” he declared.
