Trump lashes NATO and Meloni after Iran remarks

Trump Meloni – President Donald Trump renewed his feud with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a Sunday Truth Social post while also attacking NATO over what he called its failure to help the United States in the war against Iran. The exchange comes after Trump said he
For a president who often frames foreign policy in personal terms. Donald Trump chose Sunday to mix both—turning a new swipe at NATO into another round of conflict with Italy’s prime minister. Giorgia Meloni. while taking aim at what he described as Europe’s reluctance to support the United States as it fights what he called a serious threat connected to Iran.
In a Truth Social post. Trump bashed NATO and ripped Meloni—without naming her—saying that after “spending Trillions of Dollars on NATO. Italy. and its Prime Minister. ” she “wouldn’t even think of becoming involved with the Islamic Republic of Iran and their very serious Nuclear Threat.” He added: “For decades. we defend them but. when tested. they are not there to defend us. and the rest of the World. Not good!”.
The message landed less than a day after Trump said Meloni “begged him for a picture” during last week’s G7 Summit in France. Trump said he denied her because Italy would not allow the United States to use “Italy’s landing strips or runways,” calling it a “great logistical inconvenience.”
Trump followed that earlier criticism with a line meant to undercut any reconciliation—writing that Meloni “wants to be friends again in order to get her ‘numbers up,”’ then adding: “No thanks!!!”
Meloni struck back soon after, calling Trump’s verbal shots “unprovoked” and “senseless.” She said the friendship has not helped her standing in Italy.
“My popularity depends on my ability to defend Italy’s national interest. and that is exactly what I have always done. ” Meloni said. “That is also what I did regarding the American military bases in Italy. Their use is governed by agreements that we have always respected. and that cannot be violated as long as I am Prime Minister.”.
She also pushed back on the idea that Trump’s comments should matter to her public standing, saying: “Italy remains a sovereign nation. In any case, my popularity is none of your concern. I suggest you focus on yours.”
The feud now sits in sharp contrast to Trump’s earlier warmth with Meloni. which had been one of his more notable relationships with a European leader. Trump had even stopped during a speech last year to compliment Meloni as a “beautiful young woman.” He said the comment would be “political suicide in most cases. ” yet he was “willing to roll the dice” anyway.
For NATO. Trump’s criticism has been building in the same direction he’s taking with Meloni—arguing that allies are not doing enough when the United States is under pressure. In this latest Sunday post. NATO was described as “freeloading ingrates who did nothing to help the USA in its war against Iran. ” tying the alliance’s role directly to the dispute over Italy and its prime minister.
The newest round of insults leaves the same unresolved tension at the center of the conflict: whether Italy’s leaders are refusing U.S. requests on logistics and defense—or whether Trump is using personal disputes to press points he believes Washington has already funded and should now see honored in action.

NATO should’ve been helping more, right? Like that’s literally the point.
I didn’t even know Trump and Meloni were still beefing like this. The part about Italy not allowing US landing strips sounds like it’s just all petty at this point.
Wait so Trump is mad NATO didn’t help US against Iran… but isn’t Iran like way over there? I’m pretty sure NATO covers Europe, not the whole world, unless I’m mixing it up with something else. Also “nuclear threat” always gets thrown around and then nothing actually changes.
No thanks!!! okay but isn’t this the same stuff where he says people begged for pictures and then acts shocked they’re not kissing his ring. Meloni said unprovoked and senseless… like both of them are doing the most, and NATO is getting blamed for whatever feelings are happening that week. Can’t they just talk normal instead of Truth Social yelling at each other?
