President Donald Trump expressed frustration at the Iranian people on Tuesday night, asking why they are not rebelling against their government.
Trump’s war on Iran eclipsed the six-month mark on Aug. 28, even though he insisted early on that the conflict would last mere weeks.
On Feb. 12, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly gave a presentation to Trump and top U.S. officials in the Situation Room, where he claimed that Israeli intel showed that Iran was ripe for regime change. After Netanyahu left the room, Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly called the presentation “bullsh*t.”
Over the last half year, Trump has repeatedly claimed Iran wants to make a deal “badly,” but the Iranian government is currently refusing to negotiate. It has drastically restricted travel through the vital Strait of Hormuz, which Trump has oddly claimed is a “new U.S. territory.” On Monday, Iran struck two tankers trying to leave the strait. Iran and the U.S. have exchanged fire in recent days, with the latter bombing Iran and the former targeting U.S. assets in the region.
On Tuesday night, Trump took to Truth Social to slam ABC News for reporting that he is trying to get the Iranians to negotiate an end to the conflict. While doing so, he put the Iranian public on blast for not revolting:
I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported. I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement. I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing. They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight? President DJT
Earlier in the day, The Financial Times reported that Russia is helping Iran develop supersonic cruise missiles.
