Trevor Bauer escapes unhurt after Arizona car crash

Disgraced former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer escaped unhurt after his McLaren was involved in a crash in Arizona this week, with debris reported on the road. The incident comes days after Bauer said MLB teams have not taken him, even after he offered to play for
Trevor Bauer stepped out of the aftermath in Arizona with a backwards cap on his head, speaking with police officers at the scene after his McLaren was involved in a frightening crash on Wednesday.
Bauer, 35, escaped unhurt. TMZ published photos and videos showing debris scattered across the road after the incident. The outlet reports that he was not at fault and that another driver crashed into him in the 45 mph speed zone, sending him spinning out of control.
The crash is the latest jolt in a life that has already been shaped by sudden reversals and public scrutiny. Bauer was blackballed by MLB franchises in 2021 after allegations of sexual assault were made against him. and he has not pitched in the majors since. He has returned to the American baseball system with the Long Island Ducks after stints in Japan and Mexico.
Days before this new incident, Bauer publicly described how hard his attempt to get back into MLB has been. Speaking last week on OutKick’s ‘Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich. ’ Bauer said he does not know what goes on behind the scenes. but that the “pattern” is clear. He said teams he contacted assured him they would take the leap and sign him. only for deals to fall apart after calls that stretch for “two or three days. ” followed by a callback with the message: “Hey. we can’t really talk about this. but sorry. it’s not going to work out”.
He insisted the outcome is the same every time: “People can think what they want to think about it but the ultimate reality is. I still. I don’t have a job.” Bauer said he has offered to play for free. to go to the minor leagues. to donate his entire salary back to a team’s foundations. and to play “literally for zero dollars.”.
His hopes, he said, were tied to baseball itself—especially his recent work with the Ducks. The veteran pitcher is back with the team while dealing with back spasms. and he remains on the Ducks’ injury list. He has also made clear he believes performance should be enough to reopen doors. Last month, Bauer threw a seven-inning no-hitter for Long Island.
“It just doesn’t feel like anything that I do is going to be sufficient,” he said. “No matter how well I pitch or what I say or don’t say or whatever.”
In the background of the crash and the stalled MLB return is an unresolved tangle of allegations and legal decisions. Bauer was accused of sexual assault by Lindsey Hill. allegations that led to a suspension in which he was initially handed 324 games before it was later reduced to 194. He was never criminally charged after a San Diego woman made sexual assault allegations against him. and he has always maintained his innocence.
In 2022, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office decided not to file criminal charges over allegations made by his first accuser. After that decision, Bauer and his accuser sued each other. In 2023, they settled both suits without admission of wrongdoing and without exchanging money.
Bauer’s situation is also tied to further claims. Three other women have accused Bauer of sexual assault. One of those women was later charged with defrauding the pitcher.
The Arizona crash has its own history. It is not the first time Bauer has had a scary incident involving one of his McLaren supercars. In 2019. TMZ reported that a tire from a semi-truck smashed through a window and landed on the roof of his McLaren. Bauer later posted a photo of the wrecked 650S and wrote: ‘Yesterday. if you told me a semi truck would total my McLaren. I [wouldn’t] have believed you. If you told me it would happen like THIS?. I would’ve said you’re out of your mind. If this isn’t mayhem I don’t know what is.’ TMZ also reported then that the car was parked at the local dealership when the tire flew off the truck.
Images from this week’s crash showed Bauer chatting with police officers, and it is understood that none of the involved parties needed hospital treatment. Bauer has reportedly been in Arizona for medical treatment connected to the back injury that has placed him on the Ducks’ injury list.
For Bauer. the timing is grimly symbolic: a dangerous crash on one side. and the continuing struggle to get another chance in MLB on the other. He remains hopeful of sealing another opportunity with a Major League team. but the words he gave last week carry the same weight as the debris pictured from the highway—proof that momentum can still break in the most unpredictable ways.
