TreVeyon Henderson to miss Patriots’ season opener in Seattle due to injury

The New England Patriots will be without one of their most explosive weapons on offense Wednesday for their anticipated Super Bowl LX rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.
Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson will not suit up for New England’s season opener at Seattle’s Lumen Field due to an ankle injury, with New England officially downgrading the 2025 second-round pick to “out” in the team’s final injury report before Week 1 action.
Henderson traveled with the rest of his teammates to Seattle on Monday, with Mike Vrabel keeping the door slightly ajar for the dynamic running back to take the field against Seattle in a primetime matchup.
“We’ll see how he feels [Monday],” Vrabel said ahead of practice Monday regarding Henderson’s expected availability. “We’ll see if he can do anything. He’s been working extremely hard to come back, and we’ll see where that goes here today. We do have a few more days before [Wednesday’s game], but we’ll just see what he can do today.”
Ultimately, Henderson did not participate Monday or during Tuesday’s walkthrough — with the Ohio State product now missing all of New England’s practices after suffering an ankle injury on Aug. 24.
Henderson’s injury was bad luck for the running back and his team. On a day when New England switched its practice locale to the lower fields behind the New Balance Athletics Center, Henderson slipped on the slick grass playing surface and had to leave the session early.
He has yet to participate in a practice setting since then.
Even though the 23-year-old Henderson didn’t showcase his dynamic speed and knack for generating explosive plays during training camp or joint practices this summer, the loss of Henderson does rob New England of one of its top home-run hitters who had the wheels to gash a stout Seattle defense.
Amid the ups and downs present in his rookie year due to pass-protection missteps and poor vision, Henderson still recorded 911 rushing yards, 221 receiving yards, and 10 total touchdowns last year.
With Henderson sidelined, Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to earn most of the snaps at running back — with Corey Kiner and a potential practice-squad elevation candidate like Hassasn Haskins or Lan Larison standing as the next men up.
Speaking on Monday, Vrabel issued a vote of confidence in Stevenson — who found his footing as the 2025 season carried on and put together a strong training camp for New England.
“I think that there is a consistency,” Vrabel said of Stevenson’s play so far in camp. “I think that we have talked about his protection in the past, and that’ll be critical, I am sure, Wednesday night, as it will be every night. I think that is probably one of the things I appreciate the most about him. Certainly, I love the ability to catch the football and run with it and create [explosive] plays, but also, I think that the protection for me is what stands out.”
Elsewhere on the injury report, backup offensive lineman Ben Brown was ruled out on Monday due to a knee injury — with the 28-year-old veteran not making the trip out to Seattle.
Defensive lineman Christian Barmore — who missed Sunday’s practice due to a knee injury — was a practice participant on both Monday and Tuesday. He should be cleared for Wednesday’s game.
Seattle is also dealing with some injuries going into its season opener, as safety Ty Okada was ruled out due to a hamstring ailment — while safety Nick Emmanwori (ankle) and wideout Tory Horton (hamstring) are also listed as questionable.
