Travis Barker’s doc ends with Kourtney-backed peace

Director Justin Krook says years of filming had no ending until Travis Barker found “peace,” crediting Kourtney Kardashian’s stability for helping the Blink-182 drummer confront his fears after the 2008 plane crash.
On a night at the Tribeca Festival, the ending of a decade-long documentary finally landed—because Travis Barker did.
At the world premiere of “Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear. ” director Justin Krook looked back at the years of filming Travis Barker’s life up close. and admitted the project nearly ran out of runway before it ever found closure. Krook said they thought the film was finished years ago, only to realize they were still missing its final chapter.
“We thought we had a finished film maybe four years ago or five years ago. but it turns out we only had like a half of the film. We didn’t have an ending because Travis still hadn’t found that peace yet. He was still at odds with the rest of his band. But all these things kind of came together for him the last few years. ” Krook said at the world premiere. speaking to People.
That sense of “peace” has a clear timeline in Barker’s life. He married Kourtney Kardashian in May 2022 after they began dating in 2021. Their first child together arrived on November 1. 2023—an inflection point that Krook described as the kind of stability that changed what the audience would ultimately see.
“He was very close with his kids. but within the last couple of years. he’s found the love of his life. and I’ve really seen this sense of ease permeate him. You carry your shoulders like this, and I just see him relaxing over the last few years. I think it’s a large testament to his family,” Krook said.
The documentary traces the highs and lows of Barker’s life. including the 2008 private plane crash that left him with severe injuries and a fear of flying. The crash killed his security guard, Chris Baker, and the pilot and co-pilot. Barker and his longtime collaborator, DJ AM (Adam Michael Goldstein), survived. Goldstein later died due to a drug overdose.
Healing after the crash wasn’t a straight line. Krook said Barker’s road to recovery was exhausting and tough, involving several surgeries and skin grafts. Over time, Barker was able to push past his fear of flying with support from his wife.
Kourtney Kardashian’s role shows up directly in Barker’s own words. In a July 2023 Threads post, Barker wrote: “Just flew for the 30th time since my plane crash. Wouldn’t be able to tour or enjoy life again the way I do without the healing love of my amazing wife. I love you @kourtneykardash.”
Barker also said the documentary would have felt incomplete without him confronting those fears and trauma. He described a moment that mattered more than almost anything else in the film—the first time he got back on a plane with Kardashian after the 2008 crash.
In August 2021, Barker took a flight with Kardashian for the first time since the crash. On August 14, 2021, he finally boarded. “I knew in the back of my head. the end of this documentary is me getting on a plane again and facing my fear. which I didn’t know was ever going to be possible. ” Barker shared. “But years later, I fall in love with one of my best friends and amazing things happened. Who would have known?”.
That final stretch of healing—paired with a growing sense of family life—helped bring the film to the finish it needed. Krook. who spent years chronicling Barker’s world. framed it as the difference between having footage and having an ending: the peace that arrived in the last few years. and the fear that finally gave way.
