Tracy Morgan’s complaint landed with the bluntness of a punchline: he says he “can’t stand teachers.”
In a conversation with “Saturday Night Live” star Marcello Hernández on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series. Morgan didn’t soften the message. He told Hernández that teachers “have a limit… that’s all they’re ever going to be.” He framed his lack of respect as something he believes is baked in—teachers. in his view. have already peaked.
Hernández, meanwhile, brought up what school looked like for him. He said he struggled with Attention Deficit Disorder when he was in school, and that teachers labeled him a troublemaker because of his behavior.
Morgan responded with skepticism toward how those teachers interpreted Hernández. He suggested the teachers probably didn’t understand Marcello or his gift for comedy. Then Morgan moved from misunderstanding to resentment—saying those same teachers should be jealous because Hernández is “making bank. ” while they’re “scraping by on meager salaries.”.
The actor then tightened his stance. Morgan doubled down on the idea that he hates teachers because they hit a ceiling and give up, while he keeps pushing his own kids to “shoot for the stars.”
Morgan’s position isn’t just a commentary on education. It’s personal. shaped by his own decision to leave school behind: he dropped out of high school a few credits shy of his diploma to take care of his sick father. He’s also spoken positively about quitting school before. including a 2010 New York Post interview in which he said he’s glad he never went to college.
In that interview, Morgan told the paper: “Because if I went, I might have ended up at some crappy job. I’m glad I dropped out of high school, man. I wouldn’t be where I’m at.”
To some, it reads as a man defending a hard-earned path. To others, it’s a dunce cap tossed at the idea of teachers themselves—someone setting a line between ambition and the people he believes stopped short.

Teachers do have limits?? Sounds like he’s just mad about school.
Why is he talking like teachers are the enemy. He dropped out to take care of his dad, that sucks, but teachers still helped people. Also meager salaries is true though.
Wait so he hates teachers because they labeled the other guy a troublemaker? That feels like the whole ADHD thing like they just give up. But also he’s like proud he never went to college?? So what’s the point, everybody should just quit school then
This is kinda messed up, like he’s saying teachers “peaked” and should be jealous he’s making bank. But also didn’t he leave school because his dad was sick, so maybe he’s projecting. Idk I read somewhere teachers always blame kids like that, and then they just don’t try. Still though, coming at teachers in a punchline tone on that show feels cheap.
