Tractor-trailer spills massive amount of squid into Rhode Island intersection

“The seagulls must have had a field day!”
A tractor-trailer rollover spilled thousands of pounds of squid onto a roadway in Rhode Island, the Narragansett Police Department said in a release.
Shortly before 9:30 a.m., police responded to a reported tractor-trailer rollover on the intersection of Point Judith Road and Galilee Escape Road. The tractor-trailer was turning onto Point Judith Road when the trailer dislodged from the cab and rolled to its side, police said.
At the time of the incident, the tractor-trailer was transporting thousands of pounds of squid to a processing facility, and a “substantial portion” of the squid spilled onto the roadway, police said.
The Instagram account pierpicture posted an aerial view of the scene, showing a clear view of the pinkish sea creatures blocking the roadway. And in a YouTube video posted by The National Desk, a passing couple narrates what they’re witnessing as they pass by the wreck: “We got Rhode Island problems here, we got a couple hundred yards of calamari all over the road … Up around the corner we’re gonna have banana peppers probably.”
The overturned trailer blocked all lanes on Point Judith Road, causing significant traffic disruptions. The road was closed for several hours, while several agencies responded to the scene to assist with the incident, traffic control and roadway cleanup, and the road was reopened shortly after 5 p.m.
The operator and passenger of the tractor-trailer were not injured.
Unsurprisingly, people took to social media to comment on the unusual incident.
“The seagulls must have had a field day!” one user wrote on Facebook.
“Sounds fishy to me,” another user wrote.
“We are the calamari state, after all,” a user wrote.
And on the aerial video, one comment read, “There’s bad seafood, then there’s this really bad seafood.”
