Tottenham sign Marcos Senesi on free transfer

Tottenham sign – Tottenham have completed their second free signing of the summer, bringing in 29-year-old centre back Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth. The move continues Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuilding job after last season’s fight to stay in the Premier League.

Tottenham’s rebuild moved another step closer to the pitch on Wednesday, with the club confirming the second free transfer of the summer: Marcos Senesi has arrived from Bournemouth.

Senesi, 29, left the Cherries after four years at the end of last season when his contract expired. He was there for an emotional goodbye to the Bournemouth fan base alongside Andoni Iraola, before swapping red and black for white and landing in north London on a free deal.

“It’s a very special feeling to be a Tottenham Hotspur player,” Senesi told the club website. “From the first moment, the Club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in.”

Senesi added: “Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the Club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.”

Roberto De Zerbi’s pitch for the signing was just as direct. The Tottenham manager said Senesi’s “experience. quality on the ball. and competitive edge will strengthen us defensively. as well as giving us flexibility in formation.” De Zerbi added that Senesi “is comfortable playing in a possession-based team. ” “reads the game very well. ” and has “the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.”.

“I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team,” De Zerbi said.

For Tottenham, the timing is significant. The club have already signalled they want extra centre-back depth, with an expectation that Cristian Romero could leave this summer and with recruitment clearly focused on reinforcements at the position.

Senesi’s arrival also adds a personal complication for his life off the field. His Bournemouth exit could take him away from partner Kelci-Rose Bowers, who played for Bournemouth’s Women’s team. The two have been known as the club’s “power couple. ” reportedly beginning dating in 2025. and have shared several snaps together on social media and taken romantic holidays. Bowers is a defender for the Cherries, began her youth career at Southampton, and has 195,000 followers on Instagram. Bournemouth have confirmed she is now leaving the club.

Tottenham’s summer work isn’t finished at the position. They are looking to sign another centre back, Jan Paul van Hecke, but an opening offer for the Netherlands international has been rejected. Brighton value van Hecke at close to £70million, and he has one year left on his contract.

Chelsea have also been linked with an interest in van Hecke, and the defender is already well-known to De Zerbi, having played under the Tottenham head coach during his time in charge of Brighton. Spurs, though, still need to move closer to Brighton’s valuation if they want to get a deal done.

Just earlier on Wednesday. Tottenham announced Ben Davies had agreed a new 12-month deal to keep him at the club into a 13th season. Davies—Wales captain—made five appearances during an injury-ravaged last season. but De Zerbi praised him for his leadership during a tense and ultimately successful relegation battle in the Premier League. Davies has appeared 363 times for Tottenham. and he was present for matches at Aston Villa and Chelsea before helping with preparations ahead of a final-day win at home to Everton.

The wider squad picture still has another clear exit. Yves Bissouma will leave Tottenham this summer when his contract expires on June 30.

With Senesi now in the building and further negotiations ongoing, Tottenham’s centre-back shake-up under De Zerbi is shaping up as more than just one signing—it’s a shift in direction after a season that demanded resilience and clear answers on the pitch.
