Torremolinos invites residents to pick its official emojis

Torremolinos City Council has launched a proposal to create personalised emojis representing the local town, joining a growing trend of local authorities developing digital symbols linked to their unique identity. Through its social media channels, the council unveiled a series of proposed emoji designs inspired by Torremolinos and La Carihuela, one of the town’s most recognisable neighbourhoods. Presenting the initiative, the council wrote, “A need has been created for us… we love them!” The local authority also defended the proposal by stating that “Torremolinos deserves

the emoji”, before asking residents and social media users which designs they would use in their everyday digital conversations. Residents react to Torremolinos emoji proposals The post quickly generated positive reactions from local residents, with users sharing both praise and humour in the comments section. One user wrote: “Well, I use them for stickers”, while another commented: “They’re gorgeous!” Another resident, used the public opportunity to make a light-hearted criticism of local politics, writing, “Let them get to the town hall and have them fix

it.” The proposals include designs intended to represent both Torremolinos and La Carihuela, reflecting some of the local areas most recognisable features and local identity. Juventud Torremolinos FC joins the emoji trend The idea has also prompted a response from local football club Juventud Torremolinos FC, which shared its own proposed emoji design featuring a green and white football flag. In a post on social media, the club wrote: “We’re joining the emoji trend too, which, by the way, couldn’t be more adorable.” The club

also addressed Apple directly, adding: “🤔 @Apple, if you’re reading this, we think there are some pretty important emojis missing.” Torremolinos City Council continues to invite residents to comment on the proposed designs and share which emojis they would be most likely to use via their Facebook and Instagram pages
