Toronto officers arrested in Barcelona; suspensions ordered

Three Toronto police officers are facing criminal charges after they were arrested while vacationing in Barcelona, Spain.

Toronto Police confirmed the arrests in a statement to Global News on Monday. but did not specify the type of charges.. In the same statement, a spokesperson said: “The allegations are serious.. On arrival in Canada. one officer was suspended from duty as authorized by the Chief of Police in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act.”

The spokesperson added that “the two other officers will also be suspended upon their return to Canada in the coming days.” The force said the officers were not in Barcelona on any official capacity, and it would not comment further.

A spokesperson for the Toronto Police Association said the union would not be commenting, noting the allegations involve an off-duty incident.

The suspension sequence tied directly to the officers’ return to Canada, with one suspended immediately upon arrival under the Community Safety and Policing Act and the other two scheduled to be suspended when they come back “in the coming days.”

Global News reached out to authorities in Barcelona for more information, but no additional details were provided in the Toronto Police statement.

  1. They won’t even say what the charges are but they already suspended them? Sounds like a PR thing. Idk what the Community Safety and Policing Act even is.

  2. Barcelona cops must be crazy, right? Like if they’re arrested off-duty in Spain that usually means it’s something big. Also how come one gets suspended right away but the others not until they come back… wouldn’t the Chief just suspend all of them immediately? Not defending anyone, just seems weird.

  3. I bet they were drinking or something and then got into a fight and now it’s “serious allegations.” Toronto police love paperwork but don’t wanna say the details. If they weren’t working, why do they still act like this is a whole department scandal? Also Barcelona?? that’s so far, seems like the story is missing pieces.
