MLS has handed out some fines.
The league announced Friday that it has fined both Toronto FC head coach Robin Fraser and CF Montreal head coach Phillipe Eullaffroy undisclosed amounts for violating its public criticism policy.
Per MLS, Fraser’s infraction occurred following Toronto’s match against Charlotte FC on Aug. 19, while Eullaffroy’s took place after Montreal’s match against LA Galaxy on Aug. 22.
Fraser complained about the refereeing in Toronto’s 3-3 draw with Charlotte at BMO Field, expressing that he was upset with two plays that he felt put his team at a disadvantage.
“It’s hard enough to win in this league when you’re playing against the 11 players, but then when you have the referees you feel like you’re against them every week, it becomes difficult,” said Fraser post-game.
Eullaffroy, meanwhile, was also publicly upset with the officiating.
“There are almost 20,000 people who saw the replay 15 times, and 97 per cent are certain — I took a poll — that it was a penalty. So there are 19,000 idiots in attendance,” said Eullaffroy after Montreal’s 2-2 draw with the Galaxy at home.
He added, “We get the impression that (the officials) treat us like less than nothing; there is a total lack of respect. When we get the impression with these guys that we are ignorant of the game, it’s problematic, and it’s not the first time.”
