By the time the doors open at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort, it won’t just feel like Broadway has come to town. It will feel like it’s inviting the audience onto the stage.
A Salute to Broadway—hosted by Creation Entertainment—moves into Las Vegas for a two-day Broadway fan convention on June 27-28. The event runs through the hotel’s theatre and includes meet-and-greet opportunities for photo and autographs. a cosplay competition. a Broadway trivia competition with cash and prizes. and a Marie’s Crisis pop-up piano bar offering evening sing-alongs.
The weekend is co-hosted by Michelle Dowdy (Hairspray) along with pianists Brandon James Gwinn and Drew Wutke.
The headliners are built for people who can still quote lines from the shows on opening night. The convention includes appearances by Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon). Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon). Creation Entertainment, huh. I’m assuming this is basically like a Broadway convention with random celebrities showing up, but it’s also “Tony winners” so probably legit. Kinda weird they list Adam Pascal AND Anthony Rapp for Rent since I remember those controversies or whatever… unless that’s a different thing. Either way, Vegas will do anything except rest.
