Tom Selleck readies History Channel crime series return

After “Blue Bloods” ended, Tom Selleck is set to move into a new role behind the microphone—hosting and narrating the History Channel’s true crime series “Crime and Justice with Tom Selleck” (working title), with premiere date still TBD.
By the time the last episode of “Blue Bloods” landed. many viewers didn’t just finish a TV run—they said goodbye to a familiar kind of authority. Tom Selleck’s patriarch, Frank Reagan, was the steady center of that world. And even with the CBS spinoff “Boston Blue” keeping the Reagan name alive—starring Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan—fans have stayed hungry for one more return.
Now, it looks like Selleck may finally be stepping back onto screens. Earlier this year. the History Channel announced that the 81-year-old actor will host a new series on the network: “Crime and Justice with Tom Selleck” (working title). He’s not only set to narrate and host the show—he will also serve as executive producer.
The series is designed to unpack notable crimes and investigations throughout history. along with the lawmen and women tasked with carrying out justice when the pressure is at its highest. The pitch. as framed around the people behind the work. centers on “moments when the pressure was intense. the outcome uncertain. ” and where “the decisions [have] lasting consequences.”.
Selleck. for his part. described why this kind of story is an attraction after years of playing Frank Reagan on television. “Throughout my career, I’ve been drawn to stories about consequences and the pursuit of justice,” he said. “This series looks at real cases from across American history and the people tasked with seeing them through—moments when the pressure was intense. the outcome uncertain. and the decisions carried lasting consequences.”.
The History Channel framed him as a natural fit for the format. Eli Lehrer. EVP and Head of Programming at The History Channel. said Selleck’s background makes him “a natural partner for this project. ” adding that the network is working with Tom on “a series that looks at real crimes. real investigations. and the people responsible for upholding the law when the stakes were highest.”.
A premiere date hasn’t been announced yet. The working title is “Crime and Justice with Tom Selleck,” and the premiere date remains TBD.
The question fans are already asking is what Selleck has been doing while they wait. Since “Blue Bloods” concluded, the actor has “kept a relatively low profile” and, as the coverage notes, hasn’t taken on any roles since the show ended.
In 2025, though, a move suggested his next chapter could be closer than it seemed: he signed with a new talent agency, UTA. And more recently, he appeared at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, where he talked about his memoir and his extensive career.
The gap since “Blue Bloods” has left room for nostalgia—and plenty of it. For many viewers, the pull is simple: staying connected to Selleck’s screen presence while waiting for what comes next. The current buzz. at least. is that he may be trading a scripted family crime drama for a different kind of case file: one rooted in real historical investigations. hosted and guided by the same actor who became. for years. the face of law and order at the center of Reagan’s world.
Even with the next premiere still unannounced, the path is now clear enough to feel like a return: a major network true crime project on the calendar, Selleck’s name front and center, and the kind of justice-focused storytelling that helped define his “Blue Bloods” legacy.
There’s no end date yet on the waiting—just the steady drumbeat that Selleck is back, this time on The History Channel.

Tom Selleck always has that tough-guy voice lol.
I’m confused though—doesn’t he already do stuff with crime? Like Blue Bloods ended so now he’s just narrating true crime? Kinda feels like the same thing but different channel.
So basically History Channel is doing “Blue Bloods” but historical? Not sure I get why they need Tom Selleck for it when there are already a million true crime hosts. Also the article said the premiere is TBD, but they already announced it earlier this year so… is it delayed or what.
Honestly I’m just happy Frank Reagan is coming back in some form. Like even if it’s not Blue Bloods, hearing him talk about justice makes me feel like it’s gonna be “patriarch authority” again. But true crime always turns into like, “and then they got away with it” or some sad ending, so hopefully this one isn’t too depressing. Also History Channel usually has ads for other shows right before this stuff so I’m gonna guess it’s gonna be intense like that pitch says.
