Tom Holland pitched “Spider-Puberty” for Brand New Day

Spider-Puberty pitch – Tom Holland says his “Spider-Puberty” pitch—meant to explain Peter Parker losing control after everyone forgets who he is—was rejected by the studio but became the kernel for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Tom Holland walked into the writers’ room with an idea that immediately ran into resistance—then refused to let go of the project anyway.
In an interview published Thursday with Empire about the upcoming franchise film. Holland explained that this time. he was “kind of welcomed into the writers’ room.” He arrived with suggestions for how to start a new era for Peter Parker. now that “everyone has forgotten who he is. ” and one pitch stood out as the opening spark for what “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” eventually became.
“My pitch when I came to the table with it was called ‘Spider-Puberty.’ What happens if Peter Parker is losing control and things are changing?” Holland said.
The studio, he recalled, shut down the tagline itself. “‘Spider-Puberty’ was my tagline pitch to the studio – which was immediately shot down. But they liked the kernel of the idea and it grew into what we have in the movie now.”
Holland sounded energized at the prospect of getting back to the role after stepping away for the last five years—the gap since “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” where he starred alongside former Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Still, the excitement came with a bigger thought: how to prepare the franchise for whatever comes next. Holland said he wants to help set up the chapter after him, “much like Robert Downey Jr. did as Iron Man to Holland’s Spider-Man.”
“For whoever’s next. whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that. I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter. ” Holland said. “Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Downey did for me. then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”.
For now, though, Holland doesn’t sound like he’s planning a quick exit from the franchise. Where “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will leave Peter Parker is unclear, but Holland is expected to show up in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” in some capacity.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” debuts in theaters on July 31.
