Detroit Tigers general manager Jeff Greenberg withdrew his name from consideration for the gig, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Monday.
Greenberg, 40, has served as Tigers GM for three seasons under president of baseball operations Scott Harris. He previously spent the 2022-23 season as an assistant general manager with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Tigers and Red Wings share an owner in the Ilitch family.
Franchise legend Steve Yzerman stepped down from the Red Wings GM role in July after seven seasons without a post-season appearance, extending the team’s playoff drought to a decade.
