Tift County to host back-to school immunization event

Tift County Health Department will hold a no-appointment immunization event on Tuesday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 305 E. 12th Street in Tifton to help students meet Georgia’s before-school immunization requirements for the 2026-2027 school year.

On Tuesday morning, the doors open at 9 a.m. at the Tift County Health Department—no appointments needed. By 3 p.m. the staff hopes to have helped families close the gap on something many parents are already thinking about: getting their children ready to start the 2026-2027 school year with the required immunizations and forms.

The Georgia Department of Public Health is working to ensure all Tift County students meet immunization requirements before the 2026-2027 school year. To support that effort, the Tift County Health Department will host an immunizations event on July 22.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 305 E. 12th Street in Tifton.

Students entering 7th grade must have one dose of meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) and one dose of an adolescent pertussis (whooping cough) booster immunization before the new school year. Students entering 11th grade need proof of a MCV4 vaccine unless their first dose was given on or after their 16th birthday.

Beyond vaccines, all students in the Georgia School system from K-12 are required by law to have a Georgia Immunization Certificate. That certificate is form 3231. First-time students in Georgia schools are also required to have ear, eye, dental and nutrition screen forms, which are form 3300.

The health department also notes that insurance may cover certain immunizations and services. Standard clinic fees will apply to vaccines and forms not covered by insurance.

For children who may still need immunizations before starting school, the list includes Tdap, human papillomavirus (HPV) series, chickenpox, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), hepatitis A & B, and MCV4 (meningococcal conjugate vaccine).

The event is timed for families who may be waiting on paperwork and shots to line up—before the school year does.
