3 Agassiz-Harrison wildfires being held near homes

According to the latest from the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS), three lightning-caused wildfires west of Harrison Hot Springs are now being held. “Being held” is a step above out of control; it means the wildfire labeled as being held is unlikely to go beyond its current boundaries based on fuel levels and conditions. The Pirates Point wildfire is being held at two hectares. At one point the blaze was visible from as far away as Seabird Island. While it is geographically the closest fire to
residential areas, the Pirates Point is contained to the hills around Harrison Lake. Two additional wildfires, also being held, on the south side of Chehalis Lake are of minimal size. They were previously listed as out of control as of Tuesday (May 19) afternoon. As of publication, there have been six wildfires in the Agassiz-Harrison area, three of which were caused by lightning. As of early Wednesday evening, there are 24 active wildfires in B.C.; four fires have started in the past 24 hours. Seven
fires were declared out in the past 24 hours, and 34 were declared out in the past week. To report a wildfire, call 1-800-663-5555, *5555 on a cellphone, or use the BC Wildfire Service app.
