Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) blamed the high cost of burritos in the country, at least in part, on the “Israel lobby” spending so much money to remove him from his seat in Congress.
Throughout the week, right-wing influencers discussed the cost of burritos online, which even led to Vice President JD Vance making a fat joke about Marc Thiessen at one point. “I’m surprised to hear Mark say this. If you’ve ever met him in person, it’s quite obvious the man has never missed a burrito,” Vance quipped as part of the ongoing burrito dialogue.
Massie too wanted in on the action and offered his take on why burritos were so expensive. “While they’re telling you to put more beans in your beef so you can afford to make burritos for your family, remember the Israeli lobby spent $30 million to take me out of Congress because I wouldn’t vote for the things that have made your grocery bills so high,” wrote Massie on X.
Massie lost his Republican Party primary earlier in the summer after Trump endorsed his opponent. Trump and Massie feuded in recent years over spending, the Epstein Files and most recently the war in Iran, which led to Trump actively working to oust Massie from the party. Several major pro-Israel GOP mega donors also donated heavily to remove Massie, who is a prominent critic of foreign intervention.
Massie’s post received a bevy of reactions from across the political spectrum, with many mocking him and others accusing him of promoting an anti-Semitic trope.
“Somehow he combined blaming Israel and making it all about himself in a single post about burritos that, gasp, contain both beans and beef,” wrote conservative pundit James Lindsay in reply.
Fox contributor Ben Domenech quipped in reply, “The Jews are putting beans in your burrito! OMG”
