A Somerville bar helped a liquor company set a world record on Sunday night.
Jeppson’s Malört, the company behind a notoriously bitter wormwood liquor made in Chicago, sought to set a world record for the most number of people taking a shot of Malört at the same time.

On Sunday night, bars across the country poured Malört to set the record at 8:30 p.m. The company kept count of the number of participants through an online registration form.
Parlor Sports, a small sports bar on Beacon Street in Somerville, hosted about 35 people who tossed back shots and watched the Chicago-based films “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Blues Brothers,” said Manager Garvey Salomon.
The record will need to be verified by the Guinness Book of World Records before being officially on the books, but organizers are confident given that the main event in Chicago saw well over 1,000 attendees, local outlets reported.
“One of our bartenders heard about [the event] a couple or months ago and inquired on how to get involved,” Salomon said.
Bartender Nicole Pirog created the bar’s menu for the event, featuring a Malört cocktails, a Chicago hot dog, and Malört pie, a citrus pie made with the liquor.
