Thirteen-year-old girl sells Mariners’ ‘Jimothy the raccoon’ giveaway card for $20,100

A one-of-one trading card depicting Seattle sensation Jimothy the raccoon, given away by the Mariners at a home game earlier this month, sold on eBay for $20,000 Sunday night.
On Aug. 5, the Mariners celebrated “Jimothy Night,” honoring a raccoon with a spinal condition that was filmed roaming around a Seattle neighborhood and went viral in July. As part of that celebration, the team gave away 20,000 Jimothy rookie cards, some of which were more limited variations, including one with a gold border. The lucky recipient of the golden card was a 13-year-old girl named Abby, who attended the game between the Mariners and Detroit Tigers with her family.
Abby’s mother, Jessie Nino, told the Seattle Times that the family didn’t realize the significance of the card until nearby fans saw it and let them know it was one of a kind. According to the report, the family received cash offers for the card during the game and a Mariners staffer attempted to work out a deal on behalf of pitcher George Kirby.
“I was just like, ‘Look, guys … nobody’s trying to get rich off this,’” Nino told the Seattle Times. “But if we can leverage this for Abby’s college or Abby’s future home purchase, we’re going to be smart about it.”

The family then listed the card on eBay, where it received 100 bids and sold for $20,100.
Jimothy, an unusual-looking raccoon filmed and named by Seattle resident Kiana Hall in July, quickly became a local celebrity. The Mariners joined in with festivities that included the card giveaway and a special cocktail called a “Trashed Panda” served in a dumpster cup.
Even the base version of the Jimothy card has sold for $25 and up, while a version limited to 100 copies has sold for as much as $850, according to trading card sales database Card Ladder.
The price of the one-of-one gold card sets a new bar for stadium giveaway cards, however. The high mark for another popular giveaway card, the L.A. Dodgers’ “One Piece” offering from last season, sold for $19,800 in February (that card did not have numbered parallels, though).
This isn’t the first time a raccoon has featured on a sports card. In 2024, Topps produced a card of a raccoon that invaded the pitch during an MLS match between the Philadelphia Union and New York City FC dubbed “Raquinho.” Although a one-of-one version of that card was made, it has never sold publicly. The record sale for a Raquinho card was $202 for a parallel numbered to 10.
