The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin apologizes after “funeral” slip

During a May 26 live episode of “The View,” Alyssa Farah Griffin made an awkward on-air slip by mistakenly referring to Donald Trump Jr.’s May 23 wedding as a “funeral.” Moments later, she corrected herself and apologized, as co-hosts discussed President Donal
On a live May 26 episode of “The View,” Alyssa Farah Griffin was talking over the decision that has kept people talking: President Donald Trump skipping his son Don Jr.’s May 23 wedding in the Bahamas to socialite Bettina Anderson.
The conversation turned into a debate about timing and public backlash after the president also spent the day at the White House instead of going to the ceremony. Co-host Joy Behar offered her own blunt scenario: “If they had done the wedding at McDonald’s, maybe he would go.”
Griffin tried to respond—and immediately landed on the wrong word. “I oddly enough talked about this on CNN on Friday, and I said, ‘He should go.’” Then, as she continued, she slipped: she mistakenly referred to Trump Jr.’s wedding as a “funeral.”
“A parent should try to never miss their child’s funeral,” Griffin said—before the correction arrived fast.
“I’m sorry — oh, God — wedding. Honestly, I’m so tired, I have a 3-month-old. That was not meant,” she apologized, quickly rearranging her message on the air.
She followed up by shifting the point she meant to make: “A parent should never miss a wedding if they’re able to, and I actually don’t think people would have criticized if he did that. I think you’re much more likely to get criticism for skipping.”
The slip came as the show weighed the fallout from the president’s choice not to attend. Trump had been asked whether he would go. and on May 21 he told a reporter. “He’d like me to go… [But] this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things… If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed — by the fake news, of course.”.
The next day, he announced he would not attend the ceremony. Posting on Truth Social. he wrote: “While I very much wanted to be with my son. Don Jr. and the newest member of the Trump Family. his soon-to-be wife. Bettina. circumstances pertaining to Government. and my love for the United States of America. do not allow me to do so.”.
The timing hit closer to home for Griffin, too. She is a former Trump White House communications official, and she welcomed her first child, Justin Patrick Jr., with her husband, Justin Griffin, in February.
On “The View,” it was a single awkward word—“funeral”—followed by an immediate, emotional correction. And in the middle of a heated discussion about a high-profile family event that didn’t include the president, Griffin made sure the record was set straight before the moment could linger.
