‘The View’ Hosts Pride in America, Yet Feel ‘Embarrassed’

Ahead of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations, “The View” hosts weighed a new poll showing most Republicans feel proud to be American, while far fewer Democrats share the same feeling—and they said you can hold pride and still feel “horrified” by the c
For the third morning in a row, the conversation on “The View” didn’t stay neatly in one emotional lane.
On Friday. as the country gears up for various 250th anniversary celebrations. the hosts came to grips with a poll that found “two out of three Republicans are proud to be an American. but fewer than one in five Democrats feel the same.” They didn’t treat that split as just a statistic. Instead, they argued it pointed to something messier: pride that can coexist with shame.
Ana Navarro, a host on the show, said she understands the pull of patriotism in a deeply personal way. “I went through a civil war. I fled communism. and I live in a community in South Florida that is full of people who have fled political turmoil and oppression. ” Navarro said. “And so I will never take for granted the freedom. the refuge. the opportunity that this country awarded me. and so many other immigrants who have come here.”.
Then she drew a sharper line between what the country promises and what the government is doing right now. “But I think you can separate feeling proud of America. feeling proud of being an American. feeling proud of the exceptionalism and resilience of this country. and feeling really ashamed and embarrassed and horrified by the American government right now.”.
Navarro went further. calling out incidents she said have taken place during protests across the country in recent months. where American citizens have been killed. alongside what she described as conditions in the Trump administration’s detention centers. “So yes!. Yes, damn it!. I am ashamed of that,” she said. “But I will never stop being proud of being an American.”.
Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed with Navarro’s framing. saying the sentiment was “very well said.” Farah Griffin said she counts herself among the Republicans who are proud to be an American. while also insisting that patriotism doesn’t require denial. “And I don’t think that being proud to be American means that you can’t acknowledge our country has tremendous flaws. ” she said.
She described the United States as “an experiment in democracy,” explaining why she believes people shouldn’t treat American ideals as settled. “And we call this country an experiment in democracy, because it’s not guaranteed, because we’re actually a very young country,” Farah Griffin said.
What she said she loves most, she added, is the country’s diversity. “What makes us so unique. and one of the things that makes me love this country so much. is we’re unlike any other country on earth in that we are racially. religiously. and socioeconomically incredibly diverse. There’s no country on earth that has that.”.
The hosts’ exchange comes as “The View” continues to grapple with the cultural mood around politics and identity—especially now that the country is preparing for its 250th anniversary celebrations.

I don’t get why they’re embarrassed of America like???
So basically Republicans proud, Democrats not, and The View is mad at the government. Cool cool. But can’t we be proud AND still criticize stuff? Seems obvious.
Replying to that poll part, I swear I saw something like this and it was reversed? Like I saw a clip where the Democrats were more proud?? Idk maybe the poll is shady. Also “civil war” like… what does that have to do with 250th anniversary anyway.
They say you can be proud of being American but horrified by the government, but that’s just a fancy way of trashing the country. If people are killing citizens at protests (or whatever they meant), that’s on Americans doing that, not “the government” only. And the 250th thing feels like they’re using celebrations for politics again. Love how they act shocked the poll shows a split like that’s new information.
