The night out with Dak Prescott that became a ‘sign’ for Von Miller’s Cowboys move

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a hand—albeit unknowingly—in the signing of linebacker Von Miller.

Von Miller held his introductory conference with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday after agreeing to a one-year contract worth $5.5 million and joining his childhood team.

The veteran linebacker compared his move to Dallas to the popular movie “Inception,” saying it’s “like a dream within a dream.” He grew up in DeSoto, Texas rooting for the Cowboys with his father. Now, he has finally been given the chance to suit up for his beloved squad.

It almost did not happen, as Miller was angling to return to the Denver Broncos, even pitching himself to coach Sean Payton. But looking back, the 37-year-old star said he was destined to be with the Cowboys, especially after his chance encounter with Dak Prescott in Las Vegas a month ago.

“He was sitting in the high-limit gambling. I just sat down with Dak, and we just started gambling together and talking. I’m like, ‘Hey, man, it’s about time, Dak. It’s about time. You got to break through with one of these teams. You got to break through one of these years. I think this year you’ll be able to do it. You got everybody to do it,’” shared Miller.

“I didn’t have any inkling of being a Dallas Cowboy. It just happened naturally. Then the Cowboys reached out, and I was just like, ‘Bro, this is a sign. This is a sign for me.’”

Well, what happened in Vegas did not stay in Vegas.

Miller will enter his 16th season, and the Cowboys will benefit from his experience and leadership.

The former Super Bowl MVP and seven-time All-Pro may be past his prime, but he can still produce when given ample opportunities. In his lone stint with the Washington Commanders last year, he logged nine sacks, his most since 2018.

Miller could instantly become the emotional leader of the defensive unit, teaming up with Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, and DeMarvion Overshown.
