ITV unveils first-look of The Dark serial killer saga

A “terrifying” Scottish drama is on the way and it’s based on an unforgettable novel. ITV has given viewers a first-look at serial killer drama The Dark, an adaptation of GR Halliday’s debut book From The Shadows. Set in the rural Scottish Highlands and around Inverness with filming taking place in and around Glasgow and Greenock, The Dark is a “chilling” six-part series not to be missed this summer on ITV, STV and their streamers ITVX and STV Player. “When the body of a young
man is found eerily staged in the idyllic Scottish wilderness, detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community”, its synopsis begins. “As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them.” “With her experience of dealing with the darkest of humanity Monica Kennedy quickly becomes entangled in a heightened game of cat and mouse with
a cunning killer. “Only she can stop this monster before he claims any more victims. “But when her own history creeps up on her, she begins to lose trust in her own judgement. Will it be her own actions that are the biggest risk to herself and her family?” The first-look images of The Dark shows DI Monica Kennedy (played by Laura Donnelly) and DC Connor Crawford (Mark Rowley) as they get ready to embark on their “tense cat and mouse hunt” for a twisted
serial killer in the “breathtaking Scottish countryside”. Other images focus on distraught mum Bethany Morgan (Helen Baxendale) as well as a first glimpse at the murderer, “masked, dangerous and poised to kill again”. Starring as DI Monica Kennedy is actress Laura Donnelly, famed for playing Elvina in Beowulf, Jenny Fraser in Outlander , Hella in Britannia and Amalia True in The Nevers. Donnelly is joined by actor Mark Rowley who has been in shows such as Karen Pirie, Trigger Point, Rogue Heroes and The Last
Kingdom as Finan. They are joined by a number of other familiar faces including Cold Feet and Friends actress Helen Baxendale, The Gold actor Emun Elliott, Downton Abbey’s Cal MacAninch and The Salisbury Poisonings’ Stella Gonet. The Dark will be available to watch on ITV and STV

So it’s another serial killer show but filmed in Scotland? Cool I guess.
Netflix really ran out of ideas if ITV has to copy a “debut novel” again. Also “masked, dangerous” like okay great, can’t wait to see the killer be obvious in 2 episodes.
I don’t get why they say the body is staged in the wilderness like that’s shocking… Scotland is basically wilderness lol. But I did like Outlander so Laura Donnelly being in it makes me more willing to watch. If her “own history creeps up” that usually means she’s somehow connected to the killer? Or maybe she just has trauma.
It says it’s set around Inverness but they’re filming in Glasgow and Greenock?? That doesn’t sound like Inverness at all. I’m also confused because the book is From The Shadows but the series is called The Dark… like are they changing it or what. Either way Scotland dramas are always creepy, my cousin said this kind of stuff is “based on real cases” but the article doesn’t really say that.
