When it comes to actors who have broken out in the last five or 10 years, few names come to mind as quickly as Dan Stevens. Stevens first made a name for himself in the early 2010s starring as Matthew in Downton Abbey, but it wasn’t until The Guest in 2014 that he truly cemented himself as a bona fide action star. Stevens also played The Beast in Disney’s 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, and he recently starred in the Ridley Scott-produced horror series, The Terror: Devil in Silver, which wrapped up its final season on AMC+. It’s been a big few weeks for Stevens, who was also recently announced as the next RoboCop for Prime Video’s reboot series.
After starring in the last MonsterVerse movie under director Adam Wingard, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Stevens is officially set to return as Trapper in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which launches in theaters everywhere on March 26, 2027. Wingard is now ready to take some time away from the MonsterVerse, though, which is exactly what he’s doing with his new sci-fi movie, Onslaught. Wingard has even enlisted Stevens to star in the new sci-fi movie alongside Andor’s Adria Arjona, and the film is set to begin playing in theaters everywhere this weekend. Stevens will also be seen in the second season of Dexter: Resurrection on Paramount+ as the new titular villain, The Five Borough Killer. He takes over the feature villain role from Game of Thrones veteran Peter Dinklage, who played Leon Prater in Season 1.

What Is ‘Onslaught’ About?
The official synopsis for Onslaught, which has landed with a 74% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes from 46 reviews, reads as follows: “When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.” Rebecca Hall, who featured in the last two MonsterVerse movies under director Adam Wingard, was also cast for a key role in Onslaught, alongside Drew Starkey and Alex Pereira. Wingard came up with the story for Onslaught himself and enlisted Simon Barrett to turn the story into a workable script. The movie was filmed for a few months between November 2024 and January 2025.
