The Agency drops all episodes at once for Season 2

Paramount+’s spy thriller The Agency shifted its Season 2 rhythm and story direction—dropping all 10 episodes in one day and moving CIA intrigue to a sharper, leak-filled new arc. The result: Season 2 climbed to 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, after Season 1 landed at
By the time Michael Fassbender’s CIA agent realizes his cover may be the problem, The Agency has already changed the rules for how it wants viewers to watch.
Season 1 spent much of its time following his Martian, still adjusting to London while paying the cost of a double life—then released it in a staggered way. The premiere arrived as two episodes, followed by one episode each at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.
Season 2 comes in differently. Paramount+ dropped all 10 episodes on a single day. And just as important as the schedule shift, the show reshaped its story. The Martian is no longer just trying to survive London; he’s now battling inside the CIA itself. with information leaking as he goes up against the mercenary code-named “Viking. ” played by Chayne Crawford.
The change is part of what helped The Agency move from a moderate breakout to a breakout in the critical conversation. Season 1 landed at 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Season 2 jumped to 90%. The show also secured a spot on Paramount+’s Top 10 TV shows.
The narrative momentum isn’t hard to spot. Season 2 ends on a major cliffhanger, but there’s a roadmap that suggests the series may not be finished yet. The Agency adapts the French-language spy thriller The Bureau, which ran for five seasons. The Agency also closely adapts plotlines from The Bureau. including the fact that The Bureau’s protagonist would end up playing the role of double agent in one season.
That kind of structural borrowing matters at a moment when Paramount+ is feeling pressure to build hits beyond its usual anchors. Taylor Sheridan is set to depart for a lucrative deal at Universal, and the only remaining Star Trek series will be ending next year.
One other reason the door could stay open: the show’s creators aren’t sitting idle. Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth—who created The Agency—are also involved with other Paramount+ projects. Jez Butterworth is showrunner for MobLand. a Guy Ritchie-produced crime drama starring Tom Hardy as a fixer for a prominent crime family. While MobLand faced rumors that Hardy might depart after its upcoming second season. those rumors were put to rest when Paramount representatives said that his return was being “creatively worked through.”.
If MobLand can bring back the kind of critical acclaim it saw with its debut season. it would further strengthen the case for Paramount+ to keep finding room for The Agency to grow. And with spy thrillers becoming more common. The Agency’s biggest distinction may be that it knows exactly when to change—story and schedule together—so the binge feels like a turning point. not a repeat.
