On May 15, a middle school art teacher in Texas was arrested after multiple students came forward with allegations involving Barbara Bush Middle School—accusations that the teacher was using electronic messages to groom a student.

Haley Krista Radabaugh, 28, was taken into custody after the Irving Police Department confirmed it had received the complaints. Students told a school resource officer that Radabaugh. according to an arrest warrant viewed by NBC 5. was known to be having inappropriate sexual conversations with at least three middle school students and providing drugs to students.

In the warrant, investigators said Radabaugh allegedly began sending sexually suggestive messages to a student on Instagram. Those messages. as described in the case materials. included lines such as “There was a kid I crushed on hard before you” and “I’ll tell you what. You send me a photo of you. and I’ll send you one of me.” Investigators also said she sent “a photo of what appears to be herself getting out of the shower. ” allegedly taken “mid-chest up.” While the photograph did not show nudity. investigators confirmed Radabaugh was nude at the time it was taken.

The charging documents further allege Radabaugh used “flirtatious kiss emojis” in the messages and called the victim “babe.” The warrant states that the victim described himself as being disgusted and losing sleep after the defendant messaged him.

Radabaugh has been charged with child grooming. Her court status after the arrest has not been clarified in the material provided, including whether she has entered a plea or retained legal counsel. She has since been released from custody after posting a $250,000 bond.

Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD said police are investigating the allegations involving the “former” employee. In a statement. a district spokesperson said. “While we are limited on what we can disclose. we are deeply distressed and disheartened by these incidents. ” according to NBC 5. When contacted by Us, the Irving Police Department had no additional information to share about the case.

Katia Gonzalez. who works with Alliance for Children in Fort Worth. said child abuse often comes from someone people would never expect to hurt a child. Gonzalez also said social media “friendships” between minors and teachers are inappropriate no matter the subject. and that child groomers often rely on “electronic grooming dynamics” to isolate victims. She added that many youth-focused organizations. including schools. use policies aimed at preventing and prohibiting contact with kids outside of supervised school activities. pointing to platforms designed for communication that is “appropriate. that’s safe. where everything is visible and there’s not that isolated communication.”.
