TCU player was hospitalized for 3 days after vicious locker room assault by then-teammate
The TCU football player who was assaulted by a former teammate in the locker room was reported hospitalized for three days.
The TCU Horned Frogs recently kicked defensive back Jacob Fields off the team for allegedly assaulting his teammate, wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma, in the locker room. More information has now surfaced since the news broke about the alleged August 13 incident.
Reports indicate that Ezukanma was hospitalized for three days after the violent attack, according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN. It’s said that the redshirt sophomore was left with a brain bleed and a concussion, along with other injuries. After regaining consciousness, Ezukanma informed the program’s athletic trainer and team doctor that he had a headache and ringing in his ears. He was then sent to the hospital.
“TCU football player Dozie Ezukanma was hospitalized for three days because of a brain bleed, a concussion, and other injuries after allegedly being assaulted in the locker room by then-teammate Jacob Fields, according to a signed arrest warrant affidavit obtained by ABC affiliate WFAA in Dallas,” Rittenberg wrote.
“Ezukanma said he lost consciousness and only remembers being in the training room, where teammates told him what had happened,” Rittenberg continued. “The junior wide receiver told TCU’s athletic trainer and team doctor that he had a severe headache and ringing ears, which resulted in a hospital visit where two CT scans confirmed a brain bleed.”
Jacob Fields allegedly punched and kicked Dozie Ezukanma in the head in TCU’s locker room on August 13. Ezukanma was informed by teammates that Fields had punched him in the head when he wasn’t looking. Once on the ground, Fields allegedly kicked Ezukanma in the head.
Fields was removed from the team well before the Week 0 matchup against North Carolina. He was arrested on an aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury charge after turning himself in. He was eventually released later that day on a $50,000 bond.
Ezukanma did not participate in TCU’s 15-10 loss to the Tar Heels. His return to the field is currently unknown as he works his way back from the scary incident. Fields is not signed with any team right now.
