Kyle Machado of the Taunton Fire Department was a husband and father of two.
A Taunton firefighter died unexpectedly, the Taunton Fire Department announced Sunday.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Firefighter Kyle Machado,” the Taunton Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
“Anyone who knew Kyle knew how much he loved being surrounded by family, laughing, making memories, and simply spending time together,” Machado’s sister, Alizandria Machado, wrote in a message an online fundraising page. “He had a smile that could light up a room and a presence that will be deeply missed by everyone who loved him.”
Machado was a husband and a father of two, according to the fundraiser.
Prior to joining the fire department in April, Machado served in the U.S. Navy, the department said. Machado was also a student at Bristol Community College in Fall River, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“He spent so much of his life serving others, but above everything else, his family meant the most to him,” the fundraiser said. Since it was started on Saturday, the fundraiser has raised more than $9,000 toward a $25,000 goal to cover funeral and household expenses.
“His commitment to service continued as he dedicated himself to protecting and serving the Taunton community as a firefighter,” the fire department said. “We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”
The cause of death was not released. Funeral arraignments are not yet finalized, the fire department said.
