As a member of the Dodgers, Tarik Skubal didn’t know if Tigers fans were cheering or booing when he made his return to Detroit
On Friday, Tarik Skubal returned to Detroit as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He came away victorious with a 2-1 win in which he pitched six innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Skubal had to deal with fans of his former team now opposing him. During the game, when his name was mentioned, roars reverberated. However, it is not entirely definitive whether he was being booed or cheered. After all, his nickname “Skoob” could be interpreted as boos.
In the locker room after the game, Skubal was asked what he thought and gave a funny admission, per Jeff Riger of 97.1 The Ticket.
“You know with the last name Skoob, you don’t know if they are boos or they’re cheering for you and I gotta assume they were cheering for me,” Skubal said. “That’s all I gotta say about that”.

Skubal is now 8-7 with 153 strikeouts and a 2.85 ERA. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 81-54 and just waiting for the day to lock up the National League West Division. Skubal also joins at a time when the Dodgers are looking to win their third straight World Series title.
In early August, the Tigers traded Skubal to the Dodgers. He spent his first six MLB seasons with the Tigers. In 2024 and 2025, Skubal won two American League Cy Young Awards.
He also became a two-time American League All-Star. In 2024, Skubal won the American League pitcher’s triple crown with 18 wins, 228 strikeouts, and a 2.39 ERA.
The Dodgers’ second game against the Tigers is Saturday at 12:10 pm CST at Comerica Park.
