For parents wiping a baby’s face and hands, the routine is supposed to be simple. But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says a Target baby wipes recall is now underway after its testing found bacteria that can become dangerous—especially for newborns. young children. and anyone with a compromised immune system.
The recall notice covers Target brand Up & Up Fragrance Free and Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes. The FDA says the concern is bacterial contamination that could lead to serious or life-threatening infections.
It began with complaints. Target and the manufacturer. Sapro Temizlik Urunleri. received numerous customer reports of “product discoloration.” The complaints also included reports of skin irritation. eye irritation. and infections allegedly associated with using the wipes. The reports are still under investigation by the manufacturer and Target.
After that, the FDA tested samples and identified contamination with Burkholderia cepacia and Burkholderia gladioli. The bacteria are commonly found in soil and water, the FDA said.
The risk, according to the recall notice, changes depending on who is exposed. In healthy individuals, the bacteria could cause “local infections” in areas near or on skin lesions. But for people with weakened immune systems. and for younger children. the infection could spread into the bloodstream. leading to life-threatening sepsis or pneumonia.
The wipes were sold at Target stores nationwide and online on the store website.
Not all packages are affected the same way. The recalled Up & Up Fragrance Free Wipes are listed by the FDA in 20-, 72-, 216-, 800- and 1,200-count packages. For the Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes, the recall includes 72-, 216- and 800-count containers.
Specific product identifiers are tied to batch details. The FDA says Fragrance Free Wipes with the manufacturing code of Nov. 7, 2025, to May 5, 2026, and expiration dates from May 10, 2028, to Nov. 5, 2028, are included in the recall. The Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes are also covered, with manufacturing codes of Dec. 29, 2025, to Dec. 30, 2025, and expiration dates of June 29, 2028, to June 30, 2028, health authorities said.
The FDA’s instruction to families is direct: consumers should “immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to any Target store for a full refund.”
