Taking a helicopter to go shopping? Sure, Rosendale man says

According to a Facebook post from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the parking lot of Cabela’s around 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, for a report of a helicopter landing.

At the scene, deputies spoke with the 69-year-old pilot, who had made the trip to the Cabela’s, at 1 Cabela Way in Richfield, about 50 miles from his hometown of Rosendale, by air.

The sheriff’s office said the pilot simply told deputies “the drive was too long.”

As the pilot was properly licensed, complied with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, landed safely and answered deputies’ questions, the errands-by-air trip was entirely legal, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The outcome? No violations. No arrests,” the post reads. “Just a unique way to make a shopping trip to avoid all the roundabouts in front of Cabela’s.”
