SZA Warns Against AI Music After Diplo Claim

SZA accuses – SZA lashed out at AI music-making, accusing Diplo of equity in Suno and of trying to “train” models on Black writers and producers, while also directing a warning at artists using AI to create new tracks.
SZA didn’t hold back—at least not online—after claiming that AI music is being trained on Black talent.
In a Sunday post on her private @notmusicatalliswear Instagram account, the singer took aim at producer Diplo, writing that he is “actively attempting to train it on the best and brightest black minds of writers and producers.”
Her message landed inside a broader outburst. On her main account, she wrote: “If your [sic] a musician and you support this degenerate shit ? Your [sic] DISGUSTING and there’s NOTHING YOU COULD EVER SAY TO ME TO MAKE THIS OKAY,” adding, “I hope u have the life u deserve.”
SZA then turned to Suno by name, writing, in part, “Do not give away your vibranium!!!” She continued: “Ionno who needs to hear this but diplo has equity in suno and is actively attempting to train it on the best and brightest black minds of writers and producers.”
She also framed the concern around representation, saying, “We make up 13% of the American population yet influence the world w our sound and perspective.”
Later, she pushed the warning even harder, writing, “I AINT HEARD A WHITE AI SONG YET .. why so disproportinate?. We have no protection in legislature medical or creative,” before adding: “The easiest to steal from. DO NOT GIVE AWAY YOUR VIBRANIUM !!!. DO NOT TRAIN AI WITH YOUR GENIUS. F–k these weird a– vultures. I want smoke all summer.”.
A representative for Diplo did not immediately respond to MISRYOUM’s request for comment.
SZA’s comments come after Suno’s chief product officer defended the company’s approach to its AI music generator last week. In a LinkedIn post. Jack Brody wrote that “preserving artistry and human creativity is just as important as product innovation itself. ” and argued that “most of the people building Suno are musicians.”.
Brody said Suno has built protections into its platform. including “clear rules prohibiting users from uploading or distributing content they don’t own or have the rights to use. ” “meaningful enforcement when those rules are violated. ” and partnerships with Audible Magic. Musixmatch. and ACRCloud to help identify and prevent misuse.
He also addressed a central concern about training data. saying. “One of the most common questions people ask about AI is whether models can reproduce material from their training data. Our answer is simple: no. that should not happen.” Brody added that Suno’s goal is “help people create new music. not replicate someone else’s. ” and pointed to “Original Creation. By Design. ” describing training strategies intended “to reduce the risk of generating unauthorized reproductions.”.
Brody further said Suno does not use artist names as training metadata, writing that the company made an intentional choice “not to teach models artist names because our goal is to help people create brand new songs, not music that sounds like existing artists.”

sooo people are just letting AI steal now? got it.
I don’t even know what Suno is but this sounds like they’re training it on Black artists without consent. Diplo always acted kinda shady to me anyway. “vibranium” is wild though.
Wait, isn’t SZA also using tech to make music? Like autotune, samples, whatever. So she’s mad at AI but not mad at… all the other stuff that takes from people? I’m probably misunderstanding but it feels inconsistent.
“I ain’t heard a white AI song yet” like yeah because they don’t market it the same. also legislature medical or creative?? idk what that means but I get the vibe. if Diplo has equity in Suno that’s enough for me to side-eye. don’t give away your genius, period.
