The moment Syd announced Beard, you could feel the long pause snap into focus. Her first album in four years is set to land on July 17, and it comes with a lead single that already sounds like a doorway opening—“Callin,” featuring the Florida duo Blu June.
Beard is Syd’s third LP, arriving via Free Lunch/Warner Records. It follows 2022’s Broken Hearts Club, but this new record arrives with its own logic, built from the private material she’s willing to turn outward.
The track “Callin” anchors the rollout. while the album itself expands into a constellation of names that pull from across the modern R&B and hip-hop orbit. Beard includes guest spots from Raphael Saadiq. Big Sean. Rodney Jerkins. James Fauntleroy. Van Hunt. and Jordan Ward—an unusually crowded set of voices for an artist who’s usually centered on her own interior language.
In a press release. Syd described Beard as “a coming of age album for me.” She said it’s “a snapshot of what my life looks like right now. ” and explained that the title was inspired by the peach fuzz on her upper lip—something society taught her to hate. She didn’t just reject that lesson. She said she fell in love with the peach fuzz and “made me rethink everything that was supposed to make me feel insecure.”.
What follows is a rare, clean kind of self-editing: Syd said it allowed her to take her confidence “into my own hands” and to “own everything that I am and everything I love about myself, regardless of what anyone else thinks.”
The title, she continued, also reflects how she sees herself in relation to her peers—“especially in music.” She pointed to the phrase “the bearded lady,” calling it “an anomaly and an outlier” in her case. “Hard to compare,” she said, adding that she’s “owning that too.”
She framed the album’s emotional engine as a reversal: “Taking things that were once insecurities and flipping them on their head has been extremely empowering.”
Beard will arrive with the following tracklist:
1. Walls
2. Callin [feat. Blu June]
3. Jasmin 17
4. My Love
5. Always Be Mine
6. Closet
7. Bad Guys
8. GMFU
9. Do Better
10. Any Time
11. Water
12. 2 Many Days
Now the anticipation has a specific date and a clear creative premise. Beard won’t just test how Syd’s sound has grown since her last album—it also sets out to prove how she’s learned to stop negotiating her own appearance, her own voice, and her own place in the room.

Beard?? Like the hair?? lol I thought it was a typo but July 17 so I guess not.
Syd really said “peach fuzz” and turned it into an album. Respect I guess. Also why is it featuring all these dudes like Big Sean and Raphael Saadiq, did she even need that many guests?
Wait so is “Callin” gonna be like, a breakup song or more like empowerment? I saw someone say it’s a cover of something? And the title Beard is from her upper lip hair right? That’s kinda wild but also kinda sweet.
I don’t get why they keep making it sound so deep like “coming of age” and flipping insecurities. Peach fuzz isn’t even that serious. But hey if it helps her confidence do it. Tracklist already looks chaotic though, “GMFU”?? what is that even supposed to mean. July 17 better be fire.
