Friday brought a rare. raw look at what happened in the minutes that changed everything at a Texas high school track meet on April 2. 2025. Collin County Court released new videos and photos tied to Karmelo Anthony’s first-degree murder case—the footage jurors saw after Anthony was convicted earlier this month.
One surveillance video shows Anthony fleeing the tent where he stabbed Austin Metcalf. He runs through the stands and onto the track in Frisco, Texas, as the confrontation unfolds beyond the frame. Other surveillance images show Anthony walking by the track tents before the stabbing. and a third shows him being taken into custody on the track soon after.
The exhibits released Friday also include a blood-soaked jacket and a folding Ozark Trail multi-tool knife prosecutors said was used to fatally stab Metcalf. Prosecutors’ photos place the incident at David Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco on April 2. 2025. with additional images showing the bleachers at the stadium.
Among the materials made public were crime scene photos. images of the knife prosecutors said was used in the stabbing. 911 calls. and police body camera footage played to jurors. The bodycam footage captures the tense moments after Anthony was taken into custody. In the video, Anthony is heard telling officers, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me.”.
Officers check Anthony’s pockets and then ask him his name. school. and grade as he is placed into a police vehicle. The audio from a 911 call adds to the scramble of those first minutes: a caller says an athlete was stabbed and that an Army veteran was compressing the wound. In the background, people yell.
The caller tells the operator Metcalf is now unconscious and not breathing. Later, the caller says Metcalf appears to be breathing again. As he speaks to the 911 operator, a man can be heard shouting, “Stay with me, Austin!” The operator then walks the caller through stopping the bleeding.
As events move toward emergency response, a man can be heard yelling, “Come on, Austin,” while chest compressions are given. “Fight through, Austin!” he urges. The 911 call ends as paramedics arrive.
Prosecutors said Anthony used a blade to stab Metcalf after the 17-year-old and his brother confronted him while sitting in their team’s tent at Memorial High School. Anthony—17 at the time—admitted he stabbed Metcalf but claimed he acted in self-defense.
During trial, prosecutor Bill Wirskye pointed to the weapon’s characteristics, saying the 3½-inch-long weapon used by Anthony was “not particularly a quality knife,” while still arguing it proved lethal when he pulled it from his backpack during the confrontation.
This month, Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the stabbing. The sentence prompted criticism from supporters over the makeup of the jury. Anthony will be eligible for parole after serving half his sentence.
Other images released Friday include a deep gash on Metcalf’s chest with a forensic ruler placed beside the wound. One short video shows Anthony near the football field where the track meet was taking place at the time of the killing. A separate brief video appears to show Anthony being arrested by responding officers. and one officer is heard saying to another as they arrive. “This is the alleged suspect.” Another voice off camera responds. “I know how it goes. ” followed by. “I’m not alleged. I did it.”.
Collin County District Judge John Roach authorized the release of the images and videos. He told Fox News Digital he understood the public’s desire to know what happened in the case. In his statement. Roach said. “The overwhelming focus on my ruling regarding the media in the courtroom was to protect the process. witnesses. and jury. Now that the trial is over, it is important to me to provide transparency.”.
Roach’s decision, after the trial ended, has brought the evidence that once fueled online arguments into clearer view. One photo shows Anthony’s hands cuffed while sitting in the back of a police vehicle, with what appears to be blood on his left hand.
Metcalf’s father, Jeff Metcalf, had previously said surveillance footage would contradict many claims that circulated online after the confrontation. Now that Collin County has released trial exhibits. the public is seeing evidence Metcalf said he hoped would settle lingering questions about what happened beneath the Memorial High School team tent.
Before the footage was played in court, Metcalf said he believed its release would answer questions about whether multiple students attacked Anthony before the stabbing. He previously said the video shows the conversation lasted less than 10 seconds, adding, “There was no four-on-one.”
Metcalf said the footage contradicts claims that Anthony was jumped, surrounded, or attacked by multiple students. “He wasn’t jumped. There was no four-on-one. He wasn’t surrounded,” he said. “Look at the video. There’s a shove and there’s a stab, and it’s over and he runs away. That’s it.” He also maintained, “The video clearly shows the conversation lasted less than 10 seconds. That’s it.”.
For those watching the newly released exhibits now—especially the surveillance clip showing Anthony sprinting away from the tent—this case’s sharpest tension is no longer just what was argued in court. It is what the recordings depict in real time: the exchange. the stabbing. the frantic first aid attempts captured on a 911 call. and the moment that followed when Anthony ran across the stadium and was soon taken into custody.
