Supporting families during childhood cancer battles

Grace Whippy shares her emotional journey caring for her son as WOWS Kids Fiji hosts a special family day for children battling cancer.
For 21-year-old Grace Whippy, every day is a fight for hope as she cares for her eight-month-old son, Pita Daubitu, who was diagnosed with cancer shortly after birth.. Speaking to fijivillage News during WOWS Kids Fiji’s Central Family Day, Whippy says the journey has been emotionally and financially draining, as her family continues to navigate treatment and the many challenges that come with caring for a child battling cancer.. She says the support from WOWS
Kids Fiji, including transport and food assistance, has helped ease some of the burden during one of the toughest periods of their lives.. Whippy says beyond practical help, WOWS Kids Fiji has also given families like hers something just as valuable; moments of joy, comfort, and hope.. Meanwhile, 22 children and their families were part of today’s Family Day.. Several activities were organised by WOWS Kids Fiji to make sure the day was filled with
fun and unforgettable memories.. The organisation says many of the children attending have undergone chemotherapy and extensive treatment at CWM Hospital, leaving them physically and emotionally exhausted as they continue their fight against cancer.. WOWS Kids Fiji says the Family Day creates a safe space where children can simply be themselves, enjoy the moment, and make happy memories with loved ones.. They say the event was made possible through the support of donors, partners, and
volunteers.. They also say that for families facing childhood cancer, the Family Day is not a small thing but a reminder that even in the hardest battles, there is still room for hope, laughter, and strength.
