Sugbo felt shaking after 6.0 quake hits Eastern Samar

After a magnitude 6 earthquake in Eastern Samar, some areas in Sugbo reported light shaking while local sessions were temporarily halted.
A magnitude 6 earthquake triggered noticeable shaking across parts of Sugbo shortly after it struck Eastern Samar.
In Misryoum’s report, residents in San Francisco, Sugbo felt an Intensity 2 tremor, while Carcar and Liloan recorded Intensity 1, according to the assessment attributed to Misryoum.
This kind of spread matters because even lower intensities can still prompt residents to check on their homes and stay alert for aftershocks.
The quake’s epicenter was reported to be about nine kilometers north-northeast of San Julian in Eastern Samar, occurring at 2:09 in the afternoon on Monday, May 4, 2026. Misryoum also notes that the event was described as shallow, with a depth of around 10 kilometers.
Beyond Sugbo, the tremor was also reported in various areas across the region, including parts of Eastern Samar and Leyte, with intensities decreasing farther from the epicenter.. Misryoum further lists communities in Samar, Biliran, Sorsogon, and Southern Leyte among locations that experienced shaking.
While these readings may look different from one town to another, they often help authorities and the public understand which areas felt the strongest motion and where to pay closer attention.
In response to the situation, Misryoum reports that the session of the provincial assembly was temporarily halted. People and officials were seen moving quickly out from the session hall at the Kapitolyo.
Misryoum reminds that official instructions and local guidance are key during such events, especially as people adjust to the possibility of aftershocks.
At the end of the day, what happens in the first minutes after a tremor can shape safety outcomes, which is why quick actions by both the public and local offices matter.
