Abbotsford hosts Strongman Canada qualifiers June 6

Many of the Fraser Valley’s strongest residents will be arriving in Abbotsford on June 6 to flip tires, pull vehicles, and carry sandbags as part of the regional Strongman Canada competition. This annual event involves completing several different feats of strength in hopes of doing well enough to qualify for provincials. Organizer Justin Foulis said a total of 40 athletes are participating in the competition, with these individuals expected to put their skills to the test across five events. In addition to DeadSled deadlift, sandbag

farmer’s carry, log clean and press, and tire flips, the competitors will also have the chance to move an entire semi truck. View this post on Instagram Foulis said it’s not just the chance to advance to provincials that’s on the line on June 6. “There are cash prizes for the man and woman who beat the deadlift records from last year,” said Foulis. This will be a tough task, as last year’s strongman regionals produced some exceptional performances that sent multiple competitors to nationals.

Local female lifters Etta Degnan and Tiana Ewing had particularly successful national outings, with Degnan finishing in second place in the U57kg division, while Ewing took third place in the U73kg division. Spectators are encouraged to come watch these Fraser Valley individuals perform Herculean tasks in the parking lot of Sevenoaks Shopping Centre on June 6 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  1. So it’s at Sevenoaks parking lot, like where people usually park their cars and go shopping? Kinda wild. Cash prizes for beating deadlift records is pretty cool though.

  2. Wait so they’re pulling a semi truck and “qualifying” for provincials? I thought Canada had like one strongman league, not all these levels. Also DeadSled sounds like an actual sled you buy at Canadian Tire lol.

  3. My cousin said Abbotsford strongman stuff is mostly just guys showing off, but they mention women too so that’s good I guess. 9 to 4:30 is a long time to watch tire flipping and sandbags. Are they really doing 5 events and moving a semi truck like it’s nothing?? I feel like someone’s gonna get hurt, but I’ll probably still drive by to watch.
