CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Parts of Union and Lancaster counties picked up anywhere from 2-4 inches of rain Thursday night, which prompted a flash flood warning and some other flood advisories.
More storms are in the forecast for the next couple of days before a pattern shift sends temperature soaring for the first several days of September.
First Alert: Thunderstorm chances continue
The storm chances peak on Friday, with widespread storms likely in the afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts and localized flooding will be possible, along with dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.
Be prepared for the possibility of weather-related delays for Friday evening high school football games. The Panthers’ final preseason game could also be impacted.
Saturday’s storm chances will be lower, but scattered storms will develop in the afternoon and continue into early evening.
While the wind and heavy rain threats will be lower, keep your umbrella and the First Alert Weather app handy throughout this stretch of unsettled weather.
Heat returns next week
Sunday will be drier, with temperatures getting closer to the 90-degree mark.
By next week, a “heat dome” ridge of high pressure will boost our temperatures and suppress daily storm chances. Highs will reach the mid-90s by the middle of next week, and the heat index will be back around (or above) 100 degrees.
