Steve Lacy’s – Steve Lacy released “The Feeling,” the first single from his next album Oh Yeah?, led by a Matthew Castellanos-directed video that opens with his head floating in pitch darkness—before cutting to acoustic strumming, a sparkler, and shirtless psychedelic backdr

In the pitch-dark opening of Steve Lacy’s new “The Feeling” video, his head floats alone—an image that hangs there before the song pulls you forward.

The music video, directed by Matthew Castellanos, then shows Lacy strumming an acoustic guitar in an empty room. He sings in front of a sparkler, and later poses shirtless against psychedelic backdrops that shift the mood from stripped-down to almost hallucinatory.

“The Feeling” arrives as the first single from Lacy’s third album, Oh Yeah?, which is set to be out next month. The release comes with new artwork for the LP—part of the same careful build that Lacy has been shaping for months.

Lacy has been teasing Oh Yeah?. since October 2025. when he dropped his single “Nice Shoes.” In an interview with Rolling Stone’s Jeff Ihaza at the time. the guitarist and producer said the new song introduced a “new era” in his career. He also described his approach in meticulous terms. saying. “This one has taken a lot of time and thought. ” and adding. “I keep using the word ‘design.’ It feels like fully designing a new language for myself.”.

That deliberate framing lands in a wider gap: it’s been almost four years since Lacy released his last project. Gemini Rights. That album earned him a Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album in 2023. and it also included his biggest hit thus far. “Bad Habit.” Before Gemini Rights. his solo debut Apollo XXI came out in 2019.

All of that history makes what’s happening in this video feel less like a random mood shift and more like a statement of intent: a new single arriving with a new visual language. timed to follow a long stretch without a major release—and built on the same kind of “design” Lacy said he was working toward.
