Steve Kerr Quietly Plugs Taylor Swift Lyrics Into Press

Steve Kerr worked subtle lines from Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” into Warriors press conferences during an uneven 2022-23 season—until a family-edited video made its way to Swift herself.
When Steve Kerr walked into the locker room at halftime and took the podium, he didn’t sound like he was trying to start a trend. He opened with, “I walked through the door of the locker room at halftime.”
To Warriors reporters and fans, it read like routine talk. To anyone paying close attention to Taylor Swift, it was the first line of “All Too Well,” with Kerr borrowing the wording almost unnoticed during a season that had Golden State finishing 44-38.
The discovery traces back to a profile by journalist Wright Thompson published Thursday, May 14.. Thompson said the longtime coach—60 at the time—subtly worked phrases from Swift’s song into his answers after games during the 2022-23 run.. He shared an example from March 2023, when the Warriors beat the Houston Rockets.
The “best part,” as Kerr’s family told it, wasn’t even the press-conference nod.. Kerr’s son, Matthew, edited multiple clips together so it looked like Steve was performing the entire song.. Thompson didn’t specify whether the montage matched Swift’s 10-minute version of “All Too Well. ” released in 2021. or the original off 2012’s Red.
Matthew shared the finished video in the family group chat, and somehow Taylor Swift—36—ended up seeing it. “She ended up seeing it through a mutual friend,” Steve said.
According to Kerr, Swift’s reaction was immediate curiosity. “Wait, is this real?” she supposedly asked. “Can I put it on social media?”
Kerr, though, requested Swift’s team keep the video private.
The whole episode lands amid bigger questions around Kerr’s future. His return to the Warriors for the 2026-27 season came after he’d been considering retirement, and he’d talked to Thompson before last season started about how he’ll eventually know the timing.
“How am I gonna feel exactly a year from now?” Kerr asked.. “Maybe two years from now?. Because the job itself is so addictive.. … You wanna trust yourself but also be suspicious of your own motives.. You don’t want to walk away too early but you don’t want to walk away too late.. And you worry about what your life is gonna feel like.”
In March. he revisited the theme. saying. “Coaching has unlocked the best version of myself.” He also admitted the physical toll of his condition complicates the picture.. “I think I’m scared that I will lose that daily engagement and purpose that not only feeds my soul. but helps me deal with my literal chronic daily pain. ” Kerr said.. “If I knew I could retire and go do the physical stuff that I love. it would be a lot easier.. But I can’t do a lot of that stuff anymore.. So I’m scared of being at home without the constant engagement and friendships that coaching brings me.”
Kerr’s championship résumé adds another layer: between playing and coaching, he has nine NBA championship rings. And even some teammates have weighed in on what they want next. On the Monday, April 20 episode of Draymond Green’s podcast, Green said, “I hope he’s our coach next season.”
