Thunderstorms return as Met Eireann warns six counties

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for six counties as Ireland’s heatwave takes a dramatic turn. The warning covers Donegal and all Connacht counties – Galway , Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo – from 3pm Thursday to 6pm Friday. Thunderstorms are expected to bring potential downpours, localised flooding, lightning damage, hail and hazardous driving conditions. Thursday could see Ireland’s temperature record broken as the hottest day of the week unfolds. The high-temperature warning has been extended until Saturday morning due to the
continuing heat blast. Met Eireann warned there will be “maximum temperatures in excess of 27°C in many counties combined with night-time minima in excess of 15°C expected.” A weather advisory highlights water safety concerns due to increased use of lakes and beaches. Heat stress and uncomfortable sleeping conditions are also possible during the sweltering nights. A Met Eireann spokesperson said: “Exceptionally warm weather will occur over Ireland this week.
