On the morning of June 14, two helicopters reportedly crashed into one another mid-air while traveling in southwest Rio de Janeiro. A same-day report placed Tree among the victims: he was 32. and he was one of six people who died in the crash. Just before the tragedy. his schedule had been moving around the world: he traveled to Brazil for his world tour. performed in São Paulo on June 6. and was scheduled to play a set in Lisbon. Portugal. on July 13.

In the wake of the news, Hollywood and internet creators flooded social media with reactions that leaned heavily into shock—then into grief.

Bebe Rexha wrote via X. “I’m in shock. ” adding that she was “in the middle of my cd signing in nyc” when she learned of the news. Rexha said. “I can’t believe it. ” and wrote that she and Tree recorded a record together for “dirty blonde.” She called him “so smart. Passionate. Talented. Kind,” and said, “I’m so sad. May he rest in peace.”.

Whitney Cummings posted via Instagram, sharing photos of her and Tree smiling together. She wrote that Oliver “is one of the most talented people on earth. ” and said the comedian “usually” comes with ego—then added. “but Oliver is pure love and the best version of what an artist can and should be.” Cummings ended with. “There’s no silver lining. We lost a giant.”.

Bobbi Althoff responded quickly on Instagram, writing, “What an honor it was to get to know you, Oliver,” and adding, “I’m so sad to hear this news. The world is so cruel. Rest in peace.”

Klein described Tree as “such a unique soul. ” saying Oliver had “the ability… to make friends in all corners of the world. ” and that the friendship was “sincere” rather than “internet friendships of convenience.” He added that Tree was “one of the funniest people I’ve ever known. ” and praised Tree’s “style of self-deprecation. ” calling it “universal.” Klein said Tree’s media appearances were “hilarious. refreshing and unique. ” and concluded that Tree was “a true artist. in every sense of the world.”.

Klein later wrote that Tree was a “dear friend and collaborator. ” but said the “real tragedy” was “that the word lost a true artist. a passionate and gifted storyteller. and a radiant light that shined upon so many of us.” He added. “His light is now extinguished and my life. and the world. is darker for it.” Klein wrote. “I hope I can be more like Oliver Tree when I grow up. ” closing with. “Bon voyage. my friend. See you on the other side. Life goes on and on and on without you.”.

Faze Banks also posted on X, quoting a message from Tree: “Life is short and everything is temporary so put yourself first and focus on what will make you happy cause everything else is out of your hands!” Banks wrote, “RIP Oliver Tree, beautiful soul.”

Andy Milonakis kept his post brief but raw on X: “RIP Oliver Tree,” followed by, “I don’t know how to process this, I’m glad I got to spend a lot of time with him last month but this s*** sucks. Life is fragile and unfair.”
