Springfield man hit by semi, killed on I-70 near South Vienna

A Springfield man is dead after he was hit by a semi truck on Interstate 70 near the village of South Vienna.

Pierre Damas Bel, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Springfield Post.

In a release, OSHP said that troopers were called to the 66 mile marker of westbound I-70, near Ohio 54, at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31.

Early investigation found that Bel was parked on the right shoulder of the highway in a 2006 Toyota Avalon, when he got out of the car and entered the westbound lanes.

When he did, a 2001 Kenworth tractor-trailer tanker combination crashed into him.

Bel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed for about three hours for the investigation, and have since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.

The highway patrol was joined at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Harmony Twp. Fire and EMS, Dan’s Towing and Recover, Shield’s Towing, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
