Spotify launches Podcast Clips to share searchable moments

Spotify’s Podcast – Spotify has rolled out a new tool called Podcast Clips that lets listeners search for specific moments inside supported podcasts, trim them with a scissor icon, save them to their library, and share them in a “clip” format via Spotify Messages or other support

The next time a podcast clip pops up on someone’s feed, it won’t just be luck.

Spotify is rolling out a new feature called Podcast Clips that’s designed to help listeners create those moments themselves—by finding a specific part of a show through text, trimming it, saving it, and sharing it with friends.

The tool works inside supported podcasts. When you’re listening and you tap the new scissor icon in the Now Playing view. Spotify brings up a text-and-video interface. From there, users can select the moment they want and trim it to fit. For audio-only podcasts, Spotify indicates the interface would switch to audio rather than video. After you’ve chosen the segment, you can preview the clip, save it, and have it appear in your library.

Sharing is built into the same flow. Users can tap the sharing button, choose the “clip” format, and send it to friends via Spotify Messages or other supported platforms.

Spotify’s move lands as the company continues to add more features—some focused on AI. The streaming service has introduced a chatbot that answers questions about podcast episodes to provide more context about a host or guest. It has also launched a more controversial feature that lets users generate “personal podcasts” based on prompts. text. PDFs. and web links.

Podcast Clips, though, is less about generating new content and more about turning discovery into something personal and shareable—whether that means introducing a friend to a show or passing around a punchline from a specific moment.

Spotify says the feature is now rolling out globally to Free and Premium users on mobile, with availability expanding across more shows over time. The company also updated the sharing experience, adding more options from the share icon: episodes, chapters, timestamps, and clips.

  1. Not gonna lie, this sounds cool but I feel like it’ll mess up listening. If I can search moments by text, why do podcasts even have episodes anymore?

  2. Wait, is the scissor icon gonna be in every podcast or only the ones that are “supported”? Because I tried doing clips in the past and it was all locked for me.

  3. Spotify adding more AI stuff again… first the personal podcasts, now this. Feels like they’re trying to replace actual podcast editing with prompts and random clips. Also “searchable moments” sounds like they’re listening to what you play, which is kinda creepy if true.
